Our Advanced Nitrox course is designed for the diver who wishes to use gas mixes containing elevated percentages of Oxygen as either their primary diving gas or as a decompression gas.
This course builds upon the Recreational Nitrox diver course and examines the use of EAN 21 through 100% Oxygen for optimal mixes to a maximum depth of 130 feet. The object of this course is to train divers in the benefits, hazards and proper procedures for utilizing these mixes for dives not requiring staged decompression.
Why would you want to use mixes with higher percentages of Oxygen? As a primary gas used in shallow depths, Nitrox mixes greater than 40% allow substantially longer bottom times while greatly reducing your Nitrogen loading, thus reducing your DCS susceptibility. As a decompression gas, mixes up to 100% Oxygen can be used to shorten your decompression obligation, or during recreational diving profiles, to give you the added safety margin of increased Nitrogen out-gassing during your safety stops. Best of all, our course can be completed using single or double tank configurations.
The cost of this course includes the TDI Deluxe Advanced Nitrox Kit, a Student Workbook, the lecture sessions, a pool class for equipment configuration, rigging and placement, and skills training and demonstration sessions. Students are responsible for their own gas, entrance and charter boat fees.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a TDI Advanced Nitrox certification card which is required to have cylinders filled with mixes greater than 40% Nitrox.
This course has some additional equipment requirements, which are outlined on our Technical Diving Overview page. However, we recommend that you Do Not purchase any equipment prior to the first evening of lecture, when we will review in depth all the necessary and acceptable equipment.
This course is commonly followed by our Decompression Procedures course. Please review our Decompression Procedures page for additional details on this course.
Prerequisites for our Advanced Nitrox course include Advanced Certification (with Deep Diving and Wreck Diving), Recreational/Basic Nitrox, our Intro to Tech course and Diving Accident insurance that covers technical diving is also required.
Please check the Calendar for the next date these courses will be held. Class size is limited so if you are interested, call us today at 516-796-6560 to hold a position in the next class for you.
