Cave DiverDivers who already hold the Cavern Diver certification or equivalent and want to further their skills in overhead environments, can sign up for our Introduction to Cave / Basic Cave Diver course. For convenience, this course can be taken immediately following our Cavern Diver course.

For clarification, an Introduction to Cave Diver certification will be issued if the student successfully completes this course using a single tank with H-valve setup.  A Basic Cave Diver certification will be issued if the student successfully completes this course using doubles.

Introduction to Cave / Basic Cave Diver certification provides you with the opportunity to explore dive locations in places like Mexico, Central Florida, Belize, Hawaii and the Caribbean Islands that are off limits as recreational divers.

The Introduction to Cave / Basic Cave Diver course expands upon your Cavern training giving you the skills, knowledge and experience to dive in true cave systems or overhead environments beyond the restrictions imposed on Cavern Divers.

Additionally, it introduces several new topics and skills, including those needed to access and use permanent cave system guidelines, and practice of lost-diver and other emergency procedures. Cave dives are planned around limited penetrations and accident analysis continues to form the basis of the training.

The course is open to all divers who have successfully completed a Cavern Diving course or equivalent.

It is also strongly encouraged that you discuss the suitability of the equipment you own with the course coordinator Jim Vafeas before bringing it to class. Equally important, do not purchase any new equipment for Cavern or Cave Diver training without discussing it with us first. Equipment that isn't right can distract from your enjoyment of Cavern and Cave Diving, and interfere with the learning process. In some instances, it can actually be unsafe. Please contact the course coordinator Jim Vafeas with all your equipment questions and concerns through the shop.
